This is by far and away my favorite Maruchan Instant Lunch flavor, ever. The ratio of lime to chili is fantastic, the (albeit microscopic) shrimp actually add to the texture, and most surprisingly the broth it creates is thick and delicious. Most of the time (chicken/beef/etc) I consider the broth to be just some liquid i have to drink in order to more easily get the rest of the noodles... not so with these. Drinking the broth was the best part!

Pricewise, paying $13 for $12 of these when typical Maruchan Instant Lunches go for $0.50 individually at grocery stores seems pretty ridiculous, but then again this is a fairly uncommon flavor: the only other place I have seen this for sale was at 7-11, where they were going for $1.50 each.

Try it. It's a little spicy... but you will *love* it.

I guess this is a secret. This is great at keeping the diet that you are currently on. You get the sensation of a complete meal, like spaghetti, or any other meat with sauce that needs a noodle.

These have no flavor but pick up whatever they are being cooked with.

It is so hard to find these noodles. I travel to my local health food store to get them. I might just get them from the Sea Tangle website, which is much cheaper than advertised here. $33/12-12oz.

These have a really nice texture, crispy-bouncy, and no odd flavor. My husband and I prefer them to shirataki. A LOT. They are very low carb, did not budge my blood sugar!

Better for salads or Asian dishes, I do not think I would like them in place of spaghetti. I use spaghetti squash for that.

I only gave them 4 stars because they may seem deceitful to some people. There is a video criticizing them for being "processed," not truly raw, on youtube. Doesn't bother me -- I am low carber, not a raw foodist.

I generally avoid most pastas, preferring the zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash as gluten free alternatives instead of rice noodles or other gluten free options. These are such a nice surprise! I only bought them because they were on sale at our local health food store (two 12-oz. bags for $5.00). Admittedly when I took them out of the bag, I wasn't too certain about them. The texture is a little odd straight out of the package. I rinsed them with water and then made a tahini, almond butter, tamari, rice vinegar, sesame oil, adzuki bean miso, and coconut sugar sauce to pour over them. I had to massage the sauce into them a bit with my hands. Then they softened up into reasonable nicely textured noodles. I topped it with thinly sliced cucumber, carrots and chopped almonds. Mmmm! They are very high in calcium, and with the tahini sauce, it's a calcium fest. Granted, I can't very well see how they're considered "raw." They hardly look like any kelp plants I know. Of all the brands of shirataki, I prefer Matsuda. I use the flat noodles, the thin, the bundled "dumpling" type, and the cubed. Matsuda noodles are packed in a sealed tray, which is then sealed within another wrap. As a result, I think they are the freshes and the least "fishy" of the shirataki brands.

The secret of enjoying these noodles is in the preparation. While water comes to a boil, I open and rinse the noodles under cold running water; place the drained noodles along with some frozen vegetables in a Pyrex quart measure; the cover the noodles and vegetables with boiling water and let them sit while I prepare a protein. I drain the noodles and vegetables and add them to the protein in a pot or skillet, season, and cook on low heat so the flavors come together. The noodles, of course, simply absorb the flavors they are cooked with. Any form of Matsuda noodles can be used the same way. In cold weather I combine them with soup, etc.

We used these as a spaghetti substitute, and they were not bad. Definitely worth considering if you want to feel full of carbs, without the carbs. The initial smell is not strong, and we have found many other uses for the noodles. Definitely worth trying if you are struggling with weight.
